$7.00 the day of the concert from any source or at the door.

Although we have sung at various other areas in northeastern Ohio and southeastern Michigan, this is our first concert ever in Akron. This performance is outside of our full concert series for this season. We have had many Akron singers in the Chorus, over the years as well as a sizeable turnout of Akron "groupies" at our Cleveland concerts. So, the members of the chorus decided to honor and thank the gay community of Akron for its constant support. This is a volunteer concert for our members, and the entire chorus is turning out for the event. We only ask that you do the same.

As gay men and women, we all have a duty to ourselves and to our community to be visible, and be counted in whatever way is comfortable to us. That may mean being "totally out" or simply helping to halt the spread of homophobia and heterosexism in whatever way we can. As members of the North Coast Men's Chorus, we choose to do this by being a positive force in the community at large as musicians, and more importantly as gay musicians. We are an astonishingly brilliant musical group! We make wonderful music, and guess what world? We happen to be gay! So, world... So, Akron... So, everybody... Wait until you hear what we've got for you at this concert! I won't tell all, but here's just a sampling of what's in store for you at "A Little Travelling Music." We begin our concert with a song made famous by the Los Angeles Gay Men's Chorus called "Diversity." This work just makes you kvell to be a queer. It has a message; and is delivered in beautiful musical terms. For you "Serious Music Queens," we will bring a tear to your eyes with our a cappella rendition of Randall Thompson's "Alleluia." The selection has only one word, a fact which works with the last gay nerve of our sign language interpreter, the eternally young and cute Doug Braun. His performance alone is worth the price of admission. (To balance out that cute and young busi-

Good Time Girls, we'll have you all reaching for your Carol Channing or Barbara Streisand drag as we belt our one of Jerry Herman's finest

selections from Hello Dolly! We'll just keep you in suspense as to which opus that might be. The fun just continues on as we work a surprise piece of traveling music that will just "send you on your way."

"

During this concert, we will also sing one of our favorite works that we have performed twice before. "Finally Here” was written by Akron's own Eric Helmuth, and is truly a lovely piece of music that is always well received by our audiences.

Of course no performance of the chorus would be complete without our small ensemble group, the Coastliners. They are a talented group of musicians who range from the wonderfully serious Neil Giewont to the downright zany Jerry Zak (Mother). Their close harmonies and excellent musicianship have been delighting audiences since 1991.

We would like to welcome the newest members of the North Coast Men's Chorus. Our auditions resulted in ten new members; bringing the total singing membership up to 55. (All of us in black tuxedos, could you just die!) From Akron, we welcome both Steve Witzberger and Brian Taylor. Although Taylor grew up in Akron, he now makes Lakewood his home, and was formerly with the chorus in the A Capellas, our non-singing "ladies auxiliary." Witzberger lives in Akron with his partner Dan, and is currently a student.

We also welcome Alex Tecoma who comes to us from Michigan and works at the Great Lakes Theater Festival. Ken Tetalman, a native Clevelander, joins us after returning home from a 25 year stay in the Big Apple. Curtis Proctor is a new tenor who hails from the Quad Cities of Illinois, and is currently attending Case Western Reserve University. Steve has performed with the Lesbian-Gay Chorus of Washington D.C. Eric Malone is a banker who recently joined the chorus from Shaker Heights. From the far reaches of Lorain County, Adam Vincens also joins us. Adam is a student of music, who tends bar at the Nite Club in Lorain. Roger Meneow, also new to the North Coast Men's Chorus, is an investment banker who resides in Brecksville. Chuck Houska, an insurance examiner, is an opera buff who recently became a member of the chorus as a baritone. John Paul also is welcomed by the chorus as a tenor. Paul recently finished his studies, and is both an actor and a singer. We're signing Paul up for a home-made donation at one of our afterrehearsal "coffee house" get togethers. We understand he is quite the pastry chef.

After a brief look at these gay men, I think we can understand why our first song in the Akron concert will be called "Diversity." We are indeed a diverse group, and we look forward to making beautiful music with all our new chorus members. Please join us in wishing them much success as they help us to "Sing the Dream.”
